Remembering Melrose Park This selection of sixty-seven photographs depicts the early history of the village and its residents.
Melrose Public Library The Melrose Park Public Library was founded on August 16, 1897. The original library was located at Village Hall, later moving to the second story of Firehouse #1. On October 10, 1971 the library relocated to former Main Post Office building at 801 N. Broadway. The following seventeen photographs trace the history of the library from 1908 to 1971.
Winston Park Development Winston Park was a new subdivision built in Melrose Park beginning in approximately 1956. These homes of three types (Ashley, Beverly and Canterbury) were constructed in former farm fields that ran from present-day Fourteenth Avenue to an area east of Fifth Avenue. The homes from Fourteenth through Ninth Avenues were begun in 1956 while the neighborhood east of Ninth was started in about 1958.
First Residents The Village of Melrose Park was incorporated on September 11, 1882. According to the Melrose Park Historical Society, these photographs depict some of the town's founding members and first residents.
Tornado of 1920 On Palm Sunday, March 28, 1920, a tornado tore through Melrose Park. Thirty-two homes were destroyed and dozens more damaged. Seven residents lost their lives and approximately thirty others were injured. This gallery includes eighty-three original photographs of the aftermath.

Then and Now This album features photographs from a Souvenir book published in 1907 celebrating Melrose Park’s 25th Anniversary. With the help of the Fenwick High School Photography Club, the exact same photographs were taken to show Melrose Park in the year 2007.
